23　adapt，adjust，accommodate和gear

① adapt指作較大的改變以適應新的環境或情況，也表示“改編，改寫”。
We should adapt our thinking to the new conditions. 我們應使自己的思想適應新的情況。
The play is adapted from a novel. 這個劇本是由小說改編的。
② adjust側重指作較小的改動或移動，或指在整體中調整各部分之間的關系，使之一致。
The body adjusts itself to changes of temperature. 身體能夠自行調節以適應溫度的變化。
③ accommodate常指以妥協或遷就做出對人對己有利的調整。
He had to accommodate his steps to hers. 他只好調整自己的步調與她的保持一致。
④ gear側重指“使適合”，對某事物加以調節以適合某種需要，達到某種水平或標準。
