In China, the 15th of the second month of the lunar calendar is commonly accepted as the Day of the Buddha's Parinibbāna, the 8th of the fourth month as the Buddha's birthday, and the 8th of the twelfth month as the Day of the Buddha's enlightenment. In South and Southeast Asian countries, however, the full moon day of May of the Gregorian calendar (corresponding to the 15th of the fourth month in the Chinese lunar calendar) is the Buddhist Holy Day called Vesākha (S. Vai?ākya), which is regarded as the Day of the Buddha's birth, enlightenment, as well as Parinibbāna.
我國一般認為農歷二月十五日是佛涅槃日，四月初八日是佛誕生日，十二月初八日是佛成道日。南方各國則以公歷五月月圓日（相當于我國農歷四月十五日）為佛節日（Vesākha），認為佛誕生、成道、涅槃都在這一天。
