突破英語口語練習："學位服，撥穗，散伙飯" 英文怎么說？

眼下正值畢業季（graduation season），我們來聊聊跟“畢業”有關的那些英文表達吧~
學位服 cap and gown
學位服（academic dress/ costume）一般就稱為cap /kæp/ and gown /ga?n/，即學位帽和學位袍。
其實學位服還有個部分叫hood（兜帽，坎肩），就是披在背后的那個垂布。
學位帽最常用的叫法是cap，又叫square academic cap，graduate cap。
不過，“學位帽”還有個有趣的說法：“托泥板”，mortarboard /'m?:t?b?:d/。
好吧，確實有點像……
 
畢業典禮 commencement/ graduation ceremony
英式英語里，畢業典禮一般叫graduation ceremony，畢業那天則是graduation day。
而在美國，畢業典禮則通常被稱作commencement ceremony，畢業那天除了叫graduation day，也可以叫commencement day。

撥穗 turning of the tassel
cap上那個穗穗就叫tassel /'tæs(?)l/，流蘇 。
通常是校長或系主任，會為每個degree candidate（學位候選人）turn the tassel（撥穗），象征著transition from candidate to graduate。
正確的撥穗姿勢，是從右到左，所以上臺接受撥穗禮之前，記得把穗穗先撥到右邊。

?英式英語里，本科和碩士論文都叫dissertation，博士論文叫thesis；
?而美式完全反過來，本科和碩士論文叫thesis，博士論文叫dissertation；
?paper可以指課程論文，或某個具體研究在會議或者期刊上發表的論文。如term paper, course paper, research paper。
?essay的含義較廣，既可指幾千字的短篇論文，也可以指散文或者雜文。
